LITH StoryWalk Brings Educational Outdoor Fun to Village
This winter, story time for local families can take place outside thanks to a national program now at Leroy Guy Park.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL —Parents whose kids love story time and playing in the snow now can do both activities simultaneously thanks to a pop-up StoryWalk at Leroy Guy Park, 201 Lakewood Rd.
The event, which according to LITH.org, lasts until Feb. 28., gives families a chance to read "The Mitten" by Jan Brett, while walking through the park. Created by the Village Recreation Team, StoryWalk features the book's pages mounted on posts throughout the park. Families can travel from station to station, reading, while also participating in suggested activities that will engage their child's reading and math skills and delight their imagination, according to LITH.org.
"It's perfect for younger kids to take a walk outside with their family and enjoy the newly-installed activity," said Kristi Brewer, village recreation supervisor, on a video posted on LITH.org.

The StoryWalk Project was the brainchild of Montpelier, VT-resident Anne Ferguson, who began the program there in 2007. Working in conjunction with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Vermont, StoryWalks have been installed in 50 states and 13 countries, according to KelloggHubbard.org.
According to LITH.org, there will be another local StoryWalk next month, when "Cat's Colors" by Airlie Anderson comes to the walking path at Lake in the Hills Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate.
