On April 9, the Village Board will take into consideration and vote upon two upcoming demolition projects: the stables located at 1109 Pyott Road and the single-family home at 9017 Haligus Road. Both projects went to bid in March, and seven sealed bids were submitted. If demolition is approved, both parcels will be leveled and restored to green space following demotion in order to prepare the sites for future public use. Learn more about each location below.

1109 Pyott Road

In 2002, the Village purchased the property at 1109 and 1111 Pyott Road. Since then, portions of the property have been leased for private use. As progress continues on the Village's strategic plan (lithplan.org), it is our intention to make this property available for public use to be enjoyed by all residents.

This Village-owned property is not being considered for sale to private developers for any private use or development, including housing, hotels, or businesses. Additionally, the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry will remain at its current location on the grounds. A series of frequently asked questions on this parcel have been made available below.

At this time, we continue to highly encourage residents to share their ideas for the future use of this property. We are dedicated to working with our residents and the Parks and Recreation Board to determine the best public use of the space to meet our community’s needs.

The Parks and Recreation Board continues to discuss future recreation opportunities at the site and preliminary examples have included a wheelchair-accessible playground, a fitness park, a splash pad, a bandshell, combined use, and more. To learn more about the types of recreation opportunities discussed so far, tune in to the creative exercise the Parks and Recreation Board conducted in December of 2019 by clicking here.

9017 Haligus Road

In 2004, the Village purchased the residential home located at 9017 Haligus Road as a part of the 16.7-acre Susong Property. Since purchasing the property, the Village has converted the majority of the acreage to the Bark Park and leased the remaining residential portion from 2004 to July 2019.

In the 2017 Strategic Plan, renting the residential property was identified as a discretionary service, rather than a core service, which later led to plans to stop leasing the residence and make the space usable by the public. In anticipation of the demolition of the home, the Parks and Recreation Board held discussions on the property’s potential use on multiple occasions throughout 2019. Most recently in September of 2019, the Board discussed expanded parking for the Bark Park as a potential use for the property’s future.
