Local Artists Display Fiberglass Sailboat Sculptures Throughout Algonquin

In celebration of the village’s 10th year running its public arts program, Algonquin will launch its “Ships Set Sail” exhibit.

The exhibit consists of 16 fiberglass sailboat sculptures, which have been on display since May 11 throughout the village, according to a village of Algonquin press release. The sculptures have been sponsored and designed by local artists.

A map of the display locations can be found above and a list of the participating businesses can be viewed on the village’s website.

A kick-off event for the exhibit will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 21 at the Historic Algonquin Village Hall, 2 S. Main St. The event is free and open to the public.

Following the event, residents can use a brochure to take a self-guided tour of the sculptures on display downtown. Several downtown businesses will be open later that evening as well.

The sculptures will be on display through October 2015.
