Longmeadow Parkway Toll Bridge Enters Engineering Phase

The proposed Longmeadow Parkway would stretch from Route 62 in Algonquin to Huntley Road.

Four contracts totaling $8.64 million were approved Tuesday by the Kane County Board for engineering work on the Longmeadow Parkway construction project, which would provide another bridge over the Fox River for local residents, according to the Daily Herald.

The new four-lane parkway, which could include tolls, would stretch from Route 62 in Algonquin to west of Randall Road, connecting with Huntley Road, according to the Kane County Division of Transportation website.

The purpose of the $117 million project is meant to relieve traffic congestion in northern Kane County, according to the DOT website.

County officials have long recognized that there will be little federal or state funds  available for the road project and have therefore proposed a toll — $1.50 during rush hour and $1 at non-peak traffic times — to help pay for the roadway, according to the Daily Herald.
