Man Accused Of Sexually Abusing 2 Children

The 35-year-old man faces several sex assault charges in McHenry County.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — A 35-year-old Lake in the Hills man faces charges for allegations he sexually abused two children.

A McHenry County judge last week denied pre-trial release for Michael Montero, who is charged with five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department began investigating Montero at the end of January when a 10-year-old girl reported that Montero, who is related to the girl, had been sexually abusing her for about three years, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.

During the investigation, authorities also learned Montero abused another child in March 2024 when the child was visiting him in Cary while on a spring break from school, according to authorities.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone who has information regarding the incident or any similar incident is asked to contacting your local law enforcement agency or the McHenry County
