Man Impersonates Cop, Threatens Women With Airsoft Gun: Cops

The 20-year-old Elgin man now faces several charges following the early morning incident last week in Lake in the Hills.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL -- An Elgin man faces several charges after he pretended to be a police officer and threatenened two women while armed with an airsoft gun last week, police said. Gayratjon G. Gulomjonov, 20, of the 1400 block of Todd Farm Drive, was taken into custody during the early morning hours of Nov. 8 following the incident in the 100 block of Pyott Road in Lake in the Hills. Authorities said they were called to the area shortly after midnight for a report of a man who threatened the two women with a gun.

Officers arrived at the scene where they met with Gulomjonov and learned the weapon in question was an airsoft gun, according to a news release from the Lake in the Hills Police Department.

An argument between Gulomjonov and the two women allegedly lead to Gulomjonov taking "possession of the victims' property" by threatening to harm them, police said. He also claimed he was a police officer, even though he was not wearing a uniform and did not mention which department he worked for.

"Using the aforementioned 'look-alike' weapon that was manufactured and designed to be substantially similar in appearance to a firearm, he was able to restrict the movement of the victims," according to the news release.

Gulomjonov then allegedly struck one of the women in the neck and upper chest. Police said her hair was also pulled. The other woman was pushed, according to the news release.

During the fight, a wall was also damaged.

Gulomjonov was arrested and taken to the McHenry County Jail. He now faces the following charges:

  • Two counts of aggravated robbery - a Class 1 felony
  • False impersonation of a peace officer - a Class 2 felony
  • False impersonation of a peace officer - Class 4 felony
  • Two counts of unlawful restraint - a Class 4 felony
  • Three counts battery - Class 1 misdemeanor
  • Three counts battery - Class 1 misdemeanor
  • Two counts of aggravated assault - Class A misdemeanor
  • Criminal damage to property - Class A misdemeanor
  • Two counts of theft under $500 - Class A misdemeanor
