Man Sentenced To Prison In Fatal DUI Crash In Lake In The Hills
The collision in 2024 claimed the life of a 76-year-old Chicago man.
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 42-year-old Lakewood man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for causing a drunken driving crash
A McHenry County Judge handed down the sentence to Jakub Kakietek during a hearing on Friday, according to prosecutors. He will be required to serve a minimum of 85% of his sentence, and will be placed on two years of mandatory supervised release after he is released from prison.
The collision happened at about 5 p.m. on July 13, 2024, in the area of Pyott Road and East Oak Street in Lake in the Hills, when a black Volkswagen sedan, driven by Kakietek, was headed north on Pyott Road in Lake in the Hills when it swerved onto the shoulder of the roadway and into the soutbound lane.

A southbound vehicle hit the passenger side of Kakietek's vehicle, according to witness statements.
A passenger in the Volkswagen, who was identified as Zdzislaw Klimentowski, 76, of Chicago, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

Blood alcohol testing on Kakietek revealed he had a blood alcohol concentration of .116, which is above the legal limit of .08, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.
“This is yet another tragic example where the results of drunk driving shatters families, futures, and lives. This man’s reckless decision to drink and drive took another’s life and created a lifetime of consequences for victims, loved ones, and himself,” McHenry County State's Attorney Randi Freese said.
