Man Tries To Eat Cocaine During Drug Bust: Prosecutors
The Carpentersville man now faces several drug and gun charges following his Nov. 2 arrest, prosecutors said.

KANE COUNTY, IL -- A Carpentersville man attempted to eat the cocaine he was busted possessing during a police search of his home earlier this month, authorities said. Lamelle T. Johnson, 51, of the 1100 block of Chippewa Circle, is being held on a $750,000 bail following his arrest on Nov. 2. He faces several drug and gun offenses in connection with the incident, which began with the Carpentersville Police Department showing up at his home at about 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 2 to serve a search warrant.
When officers entered the home, they found between 15 and 100 grams of cocaine that Johnson allegedly planned to deliver, 25 hydrocodone pills and a stolen Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun that was near the cocaine, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.
They also found ammunition for the gun. Johnson, police said, does not have a Firearm Owners Identification Card.

When police found Johnson, he was trying to eat the cocaine in an attempt to "destroy the evidence," according to prosecutors. He then refused to cooperate with police as they tried to take him into custody.
Johnson is charged with armed violence, unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, obstructing justice by destroying evidence, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, resisting a police officer and possession of a firearm without a FOID card.

Johnson’s next court appearance is set for 9 a.m. on Nov. 14.
Another man who was at the home at the time, James M. Glover, 30, of the 1200 block of Navajo Circle in Carpentersville, had a stolen Glock 17 handgun, according to authorities. Glover, a felon, was on parole and was taken into custody for a charge of possession of a firearm while on parole, a Class 2 felony.

Glover is being held on a $750,000 bail. He is next expected in court on Nov. 14.
