ADAM STRAUSS SENTENCED TO 4.5 YEARS IN THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS

Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that on August 24, 2021, Adam Strauss, 33, of Crystal Lake and Chicago, Illinois, was sentenced to 4.5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Judge Michael Coppedge. Following a bench trial before Judge Coppedge, Strauss was found guilty of Theft (Over $500.00), a Class 3 Felony; Theft (Subsequent Offense), a Class 4 Felony; and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, a Class 2 Felony.

On July 16, 2017, officer of the Crystal Lake Police Department responded to a report of a theft.  Using cell phone records, the Crystal Lake Police Department was able to determine that Adam Strauss entered a home in Crystal Lake when the residents were away and stole heirloom jewelry.  Over the course of the investigation, the Crystal Lake Police Department was also able to determine that Adam Strauss had failed to register as a sex offender with local authorities during his time living in Crystal Lake.

This case was investigated by members of the Crystal Lake Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Tyler Mikan and Kyle Bruett
