Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announced that Richard F. Wachter, 56, of Woodstock, Illinois, was sentenced on September 8, 2021 to ten years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by Honorable Judge Coppedge, pursuant to a negotiated plea, after pleading guilty to two counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault. Wachter was also sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to two counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.

On August 9, 2018, Wachter was charged with sexually assaulting and abusing multiple victims dating back to the 1990s. On August 11, 2017, the Statute of Limitations for the major felony sex crimes committed against children was eliminated, so long as the cases were still viable under the extended statute of limitations, and Wachter was prosecuted for his past offenses against children.

This case was investigated by Detective Sharp of the Woodstock Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Sharyl Eisenstein of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
