Mother, Son Use Ladder to Rescue Elderly Man From Icy Fox River
A man in his 70s fell from his canoe into the quick currents of the Fox River in Algonquin Monday afternoon.

ALGONQUIN, IL - An elderly man was rescued from the fast currents of the Fox River in Algonquin Monday afternoon after he fell from his canoe into the icy water. The man, who was about 70 years old and from Lake in the Hills, was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin where he was treated for hypothermia and was in stable condition, the Northwest Herald.
A woman and her 16-year-old son who spotted the man clinging onto a watercraft near the 800 block of Oceola Drive in Algonquin at about 4:30 p.m. Monday were able to extend a ladder to the man and help pull him to land, according to newspaper reports.
The Daily Herald reports bystanders told authorities they saw the man along the Fox River in the past week and believed he was taking photographs.
