Natural Landscaping Talk Held At Ted Spella Park

ALGONQUIN, IL — Natural landscaping is very pretty to look at, but did you know that it can help you manage stormwater and create wildlife habitat as well?

The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County and the McHenry County Department of Planning and Development plan to host a talk and tour event from 1 to 3 p.m. on July 22 at Ted Spella Park where natural landscaping and other best management practices will be discussed, according to a news release from McHenry County.

Natural landscaping, such as the use of native vegetation and other forms of “green infrastructure,” can help manage stormwater and reduce flooding. It also brings the added
benefits of providing natural habitat, creating natural beauty, and helping recharge the aquifers
on which McHenry County relies for its water supply, according to the news release.

McHenry County government and the environmental defenders have teamed up to present a
monthly series of Talk and Tour workshops through November to showcase unique and innovative local best management practices. The events are designed to give the public an up- close look at ways that communities, businesses and households can manage resources and save money doing so, according to the news release.
