No ID Released In Home Explosion Due To 'Severity Of Burns': Coroner

One person was killed and two others seriously injured in a house explosion Sunday near Wonder Lake, authorities said.

WONDER LAKE, IL — The McHenry County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the person found dead following a house explosion and fire Sunday in Wonder Lake.

Emergency crews from multiple fire departments and law enforcement agencies responded at about 8 p.m. to the 7400 block of Birch Drive in unincorporated Wonder Lake for reports of a house explosion, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said one person was killed in the explosion, while a 76-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were transported to Loyola University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Due to the severity of the burns sustained, officials have not yet been able to positively identify the person killed in the blast, according to the McHenry County Coroner's Office. An autopsy was performed Monday, and toxicology results are pending.

The investigation remains ongoing by the coroner's office, sheriff's office and the Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office.
