One Seriously Injured in Elgin House Explosion, Fire

A resident of the home was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

A home explosion and fire in Elgin left one person seriously injured Monday.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 1100 block of Morningside Drive at 9:49 p.m. Monday where they found the front and east wall “blown out” and lying on the ground and the majority of window glass shattered, according to an Elgin Police Department press release.

The resident of the home was found in the front yard. Emergency personnel began care for the resident at the scene and then transported the resident to Advocate Sherman Hospital to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, according to the news release.

Firefighters were able to get a blaze at the home under control within 10 minutes. The damage estimate for the home is $150,000.

The blaze remains under investigation.
