Russ Ruzanski Ousts Paul Mulcahy in Lake in the Hills Village President Race

With votes still being tallied, village trustee Russ Ruzanski had a clear lead over Mulcahy.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL - Lake in the Hills Trustee Russ Ruzanski appeared poised to take over as the new village president, ousting Paul Mulchay from the post.

With not all precincts reporting in McHenry County, Ruzanski had 807 votes compared to 489 for Mulchay as of early Wednesday, according to preliminary results from Tuesday's election.

Ruzanski plans to improve community development in the village and work to balance the budget while not transferring funds between accounts, according to the Northwest Herald. One of his first priorities as village president will be to fill his spot on the village board where he believes more diversity is needed.

Ruzanski, who is retired salesman from Coca-Cola Refreshments, has served on the Lake in the Hills village board since 2011. One of his main reasons for running against Mulcahy has to do with the former village president's domestic battery charge, according to the Daily Herald. Mulcahy is accused of dragging a woman he was dating by her feet and down a flight of stairs before throwing her out of the house in November.

Mulcahy, a retired postal worker, became village president in 2013 and before that, served as a village trustee since 1997.
