Police Search For 2 In Crowbar Attack, Home Invasion

The duo busted their way into a Carpentersville apartment, robbing and injuring a man and woman, police said.

CARPENTERSVILLE, IL – A man and woman were injured when two people forced their way into a Carpentersville apartment last month, knocking the woman to the ground and then beating the man with a crowbar before stealing a pair of jeans, $500 and a cell phone, according to the Daily Herald. The Rockford woman and Chicago man then allegedly fled the scene. An arrest warrant has since been issued for Thomasina Benford, 35, of the 2600 block of Sherman Avenue in Rockford, and Delaunce C. Gray, 26, of the 1400 block of East 69th Place in Chicago, in connection with the Dec. 20 home invasion.

The duo first knock on the door to the apartment in the 0 to 99 block of Oxford Drive in Carpentersville between 5:30 and 6 a.m. before forcing their way in, according to the newspaper. Bedford knew the male victim, police said. Both the man and woman were injured but refused medical attention.

Gray and Benford have both been charged with home invasion with dangerous weapon, armed robbery-no firearm, home invasion-cause injury and aggravated battery use deadly weapon, according to online court records.
