Results Released From McHenry Co. Distracted Driving Campaign

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office issued tickets for using an electronic communication device while driving and for speeding.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The McHenry County Sheriff's Office has released results from its recent distracted driving awareness campaign.

The local sheriff’s office joined other state and law enforcement agencies across Illinois to reduce highway fatalities by cracking down on distracted driving during the month of April, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

During the campaign, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office issued 26 citations for using an electronic communication device and handed out 12 speeding tickets. Deputies also cited four people for not wearing their seatbelts and issued tickets to four people for not having insurance, according to authorities.

Three more were cited for suspended registration and two were taken into custody for driving while license suspended.

This law enforcement mobilization was funded by federal traffic safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation and is part of the nationwide “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaigns, according to the news release.
