Search Underway for Man Who Went Over Fox River Dam in Algonquin
Police believe the man jumped into the river after he did not pay his bill at a local restaurant and was fleeing the business.

ALGONQUIN, IL - The search continues this morning for a man who police believed fled an Algonquin restaurant after not paying his bill, the Chicago Tribune reports. As officers responded for the reported theft, the man leapt into the Fox River and was swept over the dam at the Route 62 bridge. He reportedly jumped into the river at Route 62 and North River Road at about 9 p.m. Thursday.
Police were called about the reported theft at Nero's Restaurant, 300 Eastgate Court in Algonquin, at 9:20 p.m., the Chicago Tribune reports.

Late on Friday morning, the Algonquin Police Department released a photo of a man who was last seen at near the Fox River at Route 62/River Road. Police said they were hoping to identify and check on the well-being of the man.
"The Algonquin Police Department is requesting the public's assistance to identify the subject below," according to an Algonquin Police Department Facebook post.

Divers started searching for the man at 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The search for the man was called off at 1 a.m. Friday and has since resumed, according to the Daily Herald.
