Today is the last day of attendance for students. The shelter-in-place started Wednesday morning after a teacher reported being threatened.

A shelter-in-place remains at Dundee-Crown High School after a threat was reportedly made against a teacher Wednesday morning, school officials said. Today marks the last day of school for the high school students. Dundee-Crown principal Katie Wishowski-Wetzel provided the following updates to parents on the school's website over the past 24 hours:
Update at 7:07 p.m.
We want to provide parents and students an update as we head into the last day of student attendance and final exams. Please know that we continue to investigate the anonymous phone call regarding a threat to a staff member.
District 300 continues to work with law enforcement, but, at this time, we believe there is no substantiated or credible threat to a staff member. Additionally, there was never a threat made against the school or our students. As a matter of precaution only, we will maintain the following plans the last day of final exams on Thursday, May 24 as student safety is our number one priority:
- Students will be allowed in the building starting at 9:30 a.m. Once in the building, students should report to their 9th hour room.
- Any students who do not have a final 7th hour may leave after their 8th hour final as normal. They may exit out of the main entrance. As always, we have security at this door ensuring that no one can enter the building unauthorized.
- We will remain in a shelter-in-place for testing during Periods 9, 8, and 7. Classrooms will remain locked and students are not allowed in the halls during exam periods. If a student needs to leave the room, the teacher will call for security or administration to escort the student through the hallway.
Lunch:
- Students will NOT be allowed to eat in the hallways.
- Students may eat in a supervised classroom, provided the teacher is present.
- Students may eat in the cafeteria, multi purpose room, or in the bleachers in the main gym. We will have security and administration supervising those locations as normal.
Chromebook Collection:
We will be collecting Chromebooks during lunch and 7th hour. In addition, any student that arrives between 9:30 and 10:05 may go to the Media Center and return their device.
After School Activities:
Any after school activities will take place as planned.
We want to reiterate that we will have some additional police on campus to ensure students feel safe and comfortable during the last day of final exams. If a student does not need to attend to take a final exam, then they should not come to campus.
We thank the Carpentersville Police Department for their assistance with this investigation and for the increased support they’ve provided to ensure our safety at Dundee-Crown.
Sincerely,
Katie Wishowski-Wetzel
Principal
Update at 11:45 a.m.
Dear Parents,
District 300 is providing a safety update regarding Dundee-Crown High School.
As mentioned in a previous message, earlier this morning, the Dundee-Crown administration received an anonymous call that a threat was made to harm a teacher. All students safely entered the building, proceeded to their fourth hour class, and took final exams as scheduled.
Dundee-Crown will maintain increased visibility of law enforcement throughout the day as a precautionary measure.
Additionally, students will remain in a shelter-in-place for the remainder of the day. During a shelter-in-place, students may transition from class to class, but will have limited entry and exit from the building. All entry and exit must occur via the main office.
For parents who need to visit Dundee-Crown today, you will need to present an ID as is consistent with our normal practice.
During lunch, students will be able to eat in a supervised classroom or a gym. Eating in hallways will be prohibited while the school is in a shelter-in-place.
During today’s dismissal, students will be able exit as normal, including the main office, the athletic entrance, and fine arts entrance. Busses and parents will be able to resume normal pickup procedures.
Chromebook collection, which had been scheduled for today, has been moved to tomorrow.
We would like to thank all parents and guardians for their patience in this matter.
