Referenda To Appear On McHenry County Voters' Ballots: What You Need To Know

The March primary election will be held on March 17.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — McHenry County voters will have more than just candidates on their ballots when they head to the polls on Tuesday, March 17.

Three propositions are set for consideration, include topics ranging from education funding to road improvements and firefighter pensions. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, and early voting is currently underway in the county.

County of McHenry – Federal Scholarship Tax Credit Advisory Referendum

Voters will weigh in on whether Illinois should participate in a federal program providing privately donated funds for academic needs to public school, private school, and home-school students. This is an advisory referendum, meaning it is intended to gauge public opinion and does not directly change state law.

Hebron Township Road District – $2 Million Bond for Roads

Residents of Hebron Township will decide whether the road district can issue $2,000,000 in bonds to fund road maintenance and improvement projects. Approval would allow the township to raise funds for infrastructure needs while spreading the cost over time.

Fox Lake Fire Protection District – New Pension Tax

Property owners in the Fox Lake Fire Protection District will vote on a proposition to levy a new tax for firefighter pensions. The additional 0.06% tax would increase the total extendable taxes from approximately $6,055,234 to $6,765,845. For a typical $100,000 single-family home, the estimated impact would be $20 per year.
