Thursday Snow Updates

While D300 and D158 remain closed, the Algonquin public library and the Algonquin Commons are open for business.

The village of Algonquin is slowly, but surely, coming back to life. Here are the updates for Thursday, Feb. 3:

  • IDOT will be closing IL RT 173 between US RT 14 and IL RT 47 at 7:30 AM. They are closing the road so that they can remove snow, which they expect to take 4 to 6 hours.
  • D300 and D158 schools are still closed today.
  • The Algonquin Area Public Library resumes its normal hours today, open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the main branch; open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Eastgate location.
  • Waste Management Collection resumes today, delaying the rest of the week by one day with Friday pick up on Saturday.
  • The village is working to clear all streets. After focusing its initial efforts to plow and maintain main arterials and subdivision collector routes, secondary streets and cul-de-sacs will be plowed and cleared of snow.
  • The Algonquin Commons will be open for business.
  • Village hall is open.
  • No parking will be permitted on any public street in the Village for the duration of the storm. Vehicles left on public streets are subject to be towed. Village ordinance prohibits on street parking from 2-5 a.m. during winter months and after a snowfall of 2 inches or greater. Residents with special parking issues should contact the Algonquin Police Department at 847-658-4531.
  • The Jacobs Boys Swim Meet scheduled for today, Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, has been canceled due to school closings at Woodstock North. The meet has been rescheduled to Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011.
