Village of Algonquin to Implement Downtown Streetscape Project

On Tuesday, December 19, 2017, the Village of Algonquin Board of Trustees adopted a resolution to approve an agreement with Burke, LLC. to implement the Downtown Streetscape project.

The Downtown Streetscape project is the culmination of the Village’s efforts to transform the heart of Algonquin into a vibrant business district. Over the last three decades, the Village of Algonquin has undergone a significant transformation, evolving from a picturesque riverfront community to a regional destination. Through a master planning process, the Village has created a vision for the downtown that preserves the character of this small-town community while creating an atmosphere to draw new businesses and consumers to the area.

This agreement is the first step in realizing the vision of the Downtown Streetscape Master Plan. Construction will begin next year to upgrade and enhance the electrical connections, sewer system and water mains on Main Street while also beautifying the area and creating a sense of community. Village President John Schmitt stated, “The physical heart of Algonquin is our downtown. But more importantly, it is the heart of our community. It links our past with our present and our future. This investment will provide a pleasant destination for our residents and attract new and exciting businesses.” A new pedestrian-friendly environment will also result from a planned community plaza with an outdoor fireplace and seating where people can gather and enjoy the historic atmosphere along the Fox River.
