Village Board Picks New Acting Village Board President
Longtime Algonquin Village Board President John Schmitt died on July 25. Trustee Debby Sosine has been picked to fill his seat.

ALGONQUIN, IL — Following the death of longtime village president John Schmitt, the Algonquin Village Board on Tuesday elected trustee Debby Sosine as the acting village president. Sosine will serve as the village president through July 25, which would've been the end of Schmitt's term.
Schmitt died unexpectedly on July 25. Schmitt was first elected to the Algonquin Village Board in 1993 and appointed president in 2002, after the death of then-Village President Ted Spella. He's served as the village president ever since.
“We are all still very shocked and saddened by John’s sudden passing," Sosine said. “He loved Algonquin and his legacy is evident throughout our wonderful community. We will miss him.”
