Village Meeting to Help Move Businesses Out of Homes
Between 30 and 40 percent of LITH businesses are run out of homes.

At-home business owners can learn about moving their venture into a commercial space at a meeting set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the, 600 Harvest Gate.
The symposium is titled "Whether You Think You Can or Think You Can’t: Moving Your Business Out of Your Home" and is being sponsored by the village’s community development department.
The meeting is being held to help residents who operate businesses from their homes understand the benefits of leasing space and to learn the steps to take to move into a commercial spot in town, said Dan Olson, LITH director of community development.

"It’s part of our economic development activities,’’ Olson said. "There’s quite a few (at home businesses) out there.’’
A recent LITH Patch article reported between 30 and 40 percent of Lake in the Hills businesses are ran out of resident's homes.

Local commercial property owners and brokers will also be there to educate business owners on leasing space. Members from the village’s Business Relations Committee and the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Chamber of Commerce will also be on hand.
"There’s tenant space out there,’’ said Olson, adding that there is available space throughout LITH and not just on Randall Road.
And there are creative ways to do it cheaper, he said, like having two businesses share a space and splitting the cost.
Restrictions for an in-home businesses have increased following a recent vote by the LITH Village Board. Some of those restrictions include not being able to put up a sign, Olson said.
"You can’t really do too much,’’ he said.
