Girls and young women will enjoy opportunities to learn from and be inspired by women pilots, mechanics, air traffic controllers, and other aviation professionals. This event coincides with Women in Aviation International (WAI)’s national Girls in Aviation Day.

“The aviation professionals and hobbyists joining our event are excited to share their stories and encourage girls and young women to explore opportunities in aviation that they may not have considered before,” said Airport Manager Michael Peranich. “We are honored to host this exciting educational event at the Lake in the Hills 3CK Airport.”
Rotating 40-minute sessions will offer varied exhibits and experiences to participants as they explore topics related to aircraft maintenance, pre-flight, aerodynamics, career choices, and scholarship information. Participants will engage with speakers, exhibits, and hands-on experiences as they learn about career paths and recreational pursuits within the field of aviation.
“We provide education, mentoring, and scholarship opportunities for women who are striving for challenging and fulfilling careers in the aviation and aerospace industries,” said Colleen La Plata of Chicago’s Leading Edge Chapter. “We are excited to partner with the Village and embrace the opportunity to encourage and inspire girls and young women in this community.”
Attendance will be limited to 100 participants, and attendees must register by September 20 at lith.org/GirlsInAviation. The Village is also seeking volunteers to assist with parking, set up, transitions between sessions, lunch, and more. Volunteers may sign up online.
