What's Happening With the Former East Side Butera Site?
Facade construction is underway on the site that formerly housed Butera on the city's east side.

ALGONQUIN, IL -- If you travel on Algonquin's east side, you may have wondered what's happening at the former Butera site along Algonquin Road. Construction is underway at the Town Center Shopping Center. Most notably, you may be curious to see if the quiet shopping center has signed on any new businesses.
We checked in with Algonquin's Community Development Director Russell Farnum on any progress at the site.
The facade construction at Town Center shopping center is part of a $5 million renovation project, Farnum said. The owner of the center is preparing to start on reconstruction of the parking lot, which will get a new layout meant to provide better flow through the shopping center.

The owner is also looking to add more landscaping.
As for news on any new businesses, Farnum said he has "no confirmation of any particular tenants at this time."

"Leasing is underway now but the owner expects that most of the active leasing won’t occur until at least the façade construction is completed, allowing potential tenants to see the building for what it will be," he said.
But, as is the case for many living and/or working on the east side, village officials are hopeful the work will spark more development east of Randall.
"The village is very supportive and excited about this reinvestment in the East Algonquin Road Corridor and it reinforces the strength of the economics of the east side of Algonquin," Farnum said.
