When Your Neighbor is Not Neighborly

How do you handle a neighbor that is confrontational, unreasonable , and now has cameras pointed in your yard and at your house?

We are all not supposed to get along with everyone, but when it’s a neighbor it is even harder.

Now let me say I rent this house been here three years signed another three-year lease. I am invested in this community.

When this neighbor moved in his garage ended up on our property. He wanted to buy a portion of this property so it would not be, but our leasing company said no and now has to pay rent to them. This is completely out of our control, but he wants to punish us for it...

With that being said the year he has been here he has done nothing, but try to make us miserable for something we never did or ever had any say in the matter. He is constantly swearing at us swearing at our children, calling the village nonstop on us, calling the cops nonstop, screaming profanities at my kids and it is the worst, but the police said “He has every right to say whatever he wants”.

Well now he has multiple cameras pointed directly in our backyard and our house. My kids play in the backyard and the creep factor of all this is beyond creepy. Again today the police were called once again for nonsense. When I brought up the cameras all pointed towards our house and backyard I was told by the officer “He has every right to have them there”, but at the end of the day. He has cameras pointed at my children at play. He watches us including my three children and I can do nothing about it. Fine have a camera system to protect your home, but he has no cameras in the front of his house he has them all up and down the property line looking into our backyard and house. They are not there for his safety they are there to make us uncomfortable.

He called the cops today to try to have my nine-year-old arrested. He has boys the same as my youngest. They are there once in awhile not too often, and today his child called my son names and then pushed my son who ran after him and pushed him back “this all happened on our property” So he called the police on my 9-year-old and showed the cops the tapes of our backyard and what happened. “Now my son was in trouble because even if someone says mean things and pushes you first you have no right to push him back” My son did come tell me his son was being mean and pushing “he left out the part where he pushed back”. After that I brought my child into the house and he had to stay in the rest of the night. Then the police showed up and my son was so scared and hysterical and I tried to explain to the first officer “grumble” that was son was hysterical and he needed to be calm "my son loves the police and wants to be a police officer" the first officer did not understand that so I had him call his supervisor and when his supervisor showed up things went very smoothly. The supervisor was calm and very calm we me and comforted my son. Which was amazing!

My issues with the camera’s is when does it turn into stalking or harassment? When does him screaming profanities at us in our yard turn into disorderly conduct? There are literally no repercussions for his actions so of course he is going to keep doing it.

We literally ignore him when he is outside why can’t he do the same. The hostility he has for us is insane, and we lived here before him for two years with no issues...

I have no clue what to do any advice would be amazing and appreciated
