Mother Nature enjoys messing with us. Sunday’s weather reminded me of an early-summer evening. Bright sunshine and a warm breeze. The kind of weather that makes me crave barbeque. There is something about a warm breeze and the smoky smell of hickory that reminds me of summer.
On Sunday, my family and I dined at Famous Dave’s, located at 1521 South Randall Road in Algonquin. As soon as I stepped out of the car, I caught a scent of BBQ sauce, smoky meat and hickory. Ah, summer.
We looked over our menu’s while the kids kept themselves busy with the crayons and activity menus they were given. We ordered our drinks and an order of Sweetwater Catfish Fingers.

Now, I have to admit, I do not know the difference between a regular Catfish and a Sweetwater Catfish, but the Sweetwater Catfish Fingers were really tasty. They are served with a Rémoulade and a Sweet Soul Jalapeño Sauce.
If you have a picky little eater in your family, no worries, the kids menu has more to offer than just BBQ.

A few of the kids’ offerings are: Chicken Tenders, Macaroni & Cheese, Mini Corndogs and Georgia Chopped Pork Sandwich. The kids meals include a choice of potato salad, creamy coleslaw, Famous fries, Wilbur Beans, Drunkin’ Apples, Fresh Steamed Broccoli, Garlic Red-Skin Mashed Potatoes or carrots & celery. Plus Oreo Cookies and a drink.
Each kids’ meal is either $3.99 or $4.99. My kids chose the chicken tenders and a burger, both with fries. My son loved the chicken fingers and fries but my daughter fell asleep in the booth and did not eat. She ate her burger the next day for lunch and said it was great!
The adults ordered a cup of chili, a Texas Manhandler and a Georgia Pulled Pork plate. The Texas Manhandler came with fries and the Georgia Pulled Pork came with cornbread, corn on the cob, a piece of bread and two sides. I picked fries and coleslaw for my sides.
The food came out without much of a wait and was delicious. I didn’t try the chili… when I think of chili, I think of fall and I was in a summer mood that day.
There was way too much food for me to eat at one meal, so I brought half of it home for lunch the next day. It was just as good the day after!
Next time we go, I am going to make room for dessert. I eyed something on the menu called Sweet Dixie Mini’s… a shot glass size serving of strawberry shortcake and strawberry shortcake reminds me of summer!
4 stars for Famous Dave’s!
