Woman Critical After Car Sinks In Lake In The Hills Pond

Police are investigating how a car with two women inside went off the road and into a Lake in the Hills retention pond.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — A woman is in critical condition and another was also hospitalized after a car went into a retention pond in Lake in the Hills Monday evening. Sun-Times reported authorities were called to a report of a submerged vehicle just before 6 p.m. in the 3900 block of Willow View Drive, according to a Lake in the Hills police statement, where they found two women, ages 19 and 34, along the shoreline.

According to police, a 2003 Lexus was headed southbound when it went off the road and into the pond, where it was submerged under 12 feet of water, Sun-Times reported.

A bystander helped pull the unresponsive 34-year-old out from the water, while the younger woman was able to get out on her own. Officers began resuscitation efforts when they arrived to the scene, and both women were taken to Centegra Hospital in Huntley, according to the news report.

Crews were able to recover the car from the pond Monday night, but the cause of the crash remains under investigation, Sun-Times reported.
