Woman Rescued After Car Gets Stuck On Steep Slope In Algonquin

The car went off Route 31 and 30 feet down the slope, leaving the driver trapped inside on New Year's Eve.

ALGONQUIN, IL — Emergency personnel with the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District came to the rescue of a driver whose car became lodged on the side of a steep slope off of Route 31 on New Year's Eve.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District was called to the area of South Route 31 and Oakwood Court at about 7 a.m. on Dec. 31 for a report of a vehicle that was off the road, according to a news release from the fire protection district.

When emergency personnel arrived, they found the car about 30 feet down a steep slope on the west side of Route 31 surrounded by trees with the driver still trapped inside.

Crews used extrication equipment to free the driver from the vehicle, and the driver was brought up the slope, according to authorities. The driver was evaluated at the scene and then taken to Northwestern Hospital in Huntley with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District was assisted at the scene by the Algonquin Police Department and the McHenry County MABAS 5 technical rescue team.
