2 Die In Monday’s I-57 Shooting

CALUMET PARK, IL -- Two people died in Monday’s deadly I-57 shooting near Calumet Park. Police are searching for who shot into the vehicle on the expressway. It was the second shooting on the same stretch of road in as many weeks.

There were three men riding in the vehicle that was shot at. One of the men who died was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as 25-year-old Parrish Myles Jr., who later died in the hospital of multiple gunshot wounds. A third man in the car was treated and released. The shooting shut down the northbound lanes of I-57 for several hours.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. Monday on I-57 near 123rd Street and involved two cars. Illinois State Police said the vehicle from where the shots were fired drove next to vehicle that Myles was riding in and fired into the driver’s side. Police said there were at least three people in a vehicle from where the shots were fired. Both cars crashed, news reports said.

Illinois State Police reported that there have been 37 shootings on Chicago expressways this year, compared to 51 last year, and 54 the year before that.
