Alsip 2017 Elections By the Numbers

A precinct-by-precinct breakdown of votes cast in the 2017 Alsip elections.

ALSIP, IL -- Alsip Trustee John Ryan is the new president of the Village of Alsip. Ryan won by a wafer-thin margin of 2.46 percentage points over opponent Steven Daddona. Ryan is replacing the three-term incumbent Mayor Patrick Kitching, who leaves office with a tarnished legacy from an out-of-court settlement for a sexual harassment lawsuit.

Overall, voter turnout in suburban Cook County for the 2017 general consolidated election was 17 percent, down two points from 2013. Out of Cook County’s 1,524,858 registered voters, 267,795 cast ballots in Tuesday’s election, according to the Cook County Clerk.

Voter turnout in Alsip for the April 4, 2017 general consolidated election was 17.1 percent. This was a marked decline from the 2013 election, where voter turnout was 21.35 percent. Of Alsip’s 13,989 registered voters, 2,379 ballots were cast on Tuesday.

Ryan was the sole member elected from the Better Government for Alsip Party. Ryan won six of Alsip’s 15 precincts. The rest of his slate was defeated by the Alsip Citizens Alliance.

Fifty-eight votes separated Ryan and Daddone took precincts 22, 42, 55, 59, 81 and 75. His biggest gain of the evening was in the 59th precinct, where he garnered 163 votes, according to the Cook County Clerk's unofficial election results.

Susan Petzel rebounded from a 2013 defeat to win the clerk’s seat, capturing 14 of the village’s 15 precincts.

Incumbent trustee Lynn Dwyer lost her seat to the Alsip Citizens Alliance candidates. Dwyer garnered 15.81 percent or 1,069 votes.

  • Monica Juarez (Alsip Citizens Alliance) - 16.61 percent, 1,123
  • Michael Zielinski (Alsip Citizens Alliance) - 17.2 percent, 1,163
  • Lynn M. Dwyer (Better Government for Alsip Party) - 15.81 percent, 1,069
  • John P. Gallagher (Better Government for Alsip Party) - 16.21 percent, 1,096
  • Christine L. McLawhorn (Better Government for Alsip Party) - 16.35 percent, 1,106
