Alsip Launches 'Hearts for Heroes' Campaign

Alsip residents are asked to decorate their doors and windows to honor frontline workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

ALSIP, IL — Mayor John Ryan is asking Alsip residents and businesses to show their love and respect for the work frontline workers and first responders are doing during the coronavirus pandemic by decorating their doors and windows.

“Hearts for Heroes” is the brainchild of Tr. Catalina Nava-Esparza, who suggested a campaign where residents and businesses could show their thanks and appreciation to those keeping communities from COVID-19. The campaign honors police, fire, hospital workers and especially nursing home personnel, as these professionally trained staff are doing everything possible to treat those who need their help most.

“I’m using the word ‘personnel,’ because I want to include those responsible for the conditions in which the doctors and nurses work, because housekeeping at any time of the year can be difficult, but are tasked with keeping our loved ones comfortable in clean hospitals and nursing or rehabilitation facilities while we’re denied access during the pandemic,” Ryan said in a letter to residents.

“[Many] of these professionals are carrying psychological baggage that many of us don’t know of this disease affects everyone,” the mayor added.

Residents and business may start decorating their doors and windows immediately with hearts and encouraging words so that first responders and frontline workers might see them on their way to and from work.
