Alsip Police Chief a guest speaker at D218 Operation Snowball

Chief addresses risks of cyber-bullying

This past weekend Alsip Police Chief Christopher Radz visited District 218 students at their Operation Snowball retreat in Frankfort to serve as a guest speaker.

Radz discussed the risks of cyberbullying, a topic that he's addressed previously in D218 schools.

Operation Snowball, at its heart an experience that prevents substance abuse, seeks to fill high school students with the qualities that lead to healthy decisions. Snowball seeks to prevent poor decisions by enhancing the tools that help students choose wisely.

Students from Eisenhower, Richards and Shepard high schools participated.

The weekend of talk, self-examination and discovery, social bonding, and fun helps students learn their capabilities, strengths, and value. District 218 hosted Operation Snowball at Camp Manitoqua in Frankfort.

Activities featured team building, small group discussions, guest speakers, yoga, workshops on art and improv, and a dance.

“It’s an alcohol and drug use prevention program focusing on leadership development to empower youth to lead drug-free lives. It’s founded on the belief that youth and adults can make responsible decisions when provided with factual information and an opportunity to develop an understanding of one’s self and motivations,” said Melissa Krenkel, who teaches at Eisenhower High School.
