ALSIP, IL — National Night Out returned to cities and communities throughout the United States after the police-community bonding celebration was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Residents took back the night in Alsip on Tuesday. Kids put out pretend fires in exchange for a firefighter's helmet, rode the Safety Train and raced kiddie police cars at Alsip police and fire's National Night Out event, which traditionally falls on the first Tuesday in August.

The Community Emergency Response Team recruited new volunteers, while the Alsip PD FOP Lodge grilled up free hot dogs. There were plenty of games and activities for kids to do with their parents and grandparents, as well as a classic car show.
