ALSIP, IL — An Alsip teacher was recently honored with school supplies for her entire class, selected a statewide nominating process.

Back 2 School Illinois (B2SI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free school supplies to children from low-income households across the state and lessening the financial burden felt by their families.

Kim Mueller-Deir, a teacher at Stony Creek Elementary in Dist. 126, was one of ten winning Illinois educators to win Back 2 School Illinois kits, filled with 30 of the most-needed school supplies for her class, as part of the organization’s We Appreciate Teachers contest.

In addition to receiving free school supply kits for their students at the event held Oct. 25 at the Lincoln Common Apartments in Chicago, the winning teachers also received personalized gift baskets full of items from Lynfred wines, Cabot cheeses, Trader Joe’s and Starbucks.

The statewide We Appreciate Teachers initiative is designed to celebrate and support Illinois educators, particularly during COVID-19. The campaign celebrates the creativity and resourcefulness that many educators have had to exhibit, in order to provide Illinois children with an education as well as enhance students’ academic performances during COVID-19.
