Alsip Village Board OK's New Garbage Contract, E-Waste Pick-Up
As part of the new deal with Republic Services, local residents can arrange to have electronics and appliances picked up at their curbside.
ALSIP, IL — Local residents will be able to dispose of unwanted electronic items and appliances through curbside pickup after the Alsip Village Board of Trustees approved a new contract that includes the new e-waste collection services.
Village officials announced this week that residents will be able to dispose of larger items such as computers, computer monitors, washers and dryers, refrigerators, microwave ovens, large air conditioning units, dehumidifiers, sump pump, stereo equipment and other items with a cord.
Residents will need to arrange pick-up dates and times with Republic Services, which will pick up the times at a resident’s curbside once an agreed upon time has been established, village officials said. To do so, residents need to contact Republic directly by calling (708) 385-8252 to schedule the pick-up.

Village officials also announced that local residents are able to dispose of their Christmas tree by placing the tree out at their curb along with their normal garbage.
Residents are also able to get rid of up to two bulk items such as sofas and other furniture on regularly scheduled garbage pick-up dates without paying a fee. The village said this week that residents needing to dispose of items that are larger than one cubic yard or weighing more than 50 pounds must arrange that pick-up with Republic. The disposal company will then charge a fee of $25 to pick up larger items after arrangements have been made for the larger items to be collected.

Construction debris is also permitted to be picked up, but residents need to make specific arrangements with Republic Services to have that material picked up. Republic Services will charge $10 per cubic yard for construction or home improvement debris pick up in 2022 before the fee increases incrementally in coming years.
