Armed Man Stalks Ex-Girlfriend, Vandalizes Her Car: Police

Alsip police find loaded 9mm gun in e-boyfriend's vehicle after he sends threatening texts and wrecks woman's car, prosecutor said.

ALSIP, IL -- A Chicago man was arrested after he threatened an ex-girlfriend and vandalized her car while she was at work, prosecutors said. An Alsip police officer stood in for London Johnson, 29, who is on suicide watch at MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island. Johnson is facing a felony charge of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and misdemeanor charges of criminal damage to property, resisting arrest, criminal trespassing and domestic harassment with an electronic device.

Police went to a manufacturing facility in Alsip on April 18, where a woman complained that her car had been vandalized. When officers arrived, the woman told police that her boyfriend, later identified as Johnson, who she alleged slashed her tires and keyed the doors of her car. The prosecutor said Johnson was circling the parking the parking lot when the woman came out. He allegedly rammed her car and drove off.

The shaken woman said that Johnson had been texting messages threatening to kill her, the prosecutor said. She asked police if they could come back and escort her home when her shift ended. When officers arrived they saw Johnson waiting in the parking lot, the prosecutor said. Johnson allegedly refused to get out of his vehicle when asked. It was until offers told Johnson he would be tazed if he didn’t get out of the car, did Johnson comply with their orders, the prosecutor said.

As officers were taking Johnson into custody, they saw the butt of a gun sticking out from under the driver’s seat, the prosecutor said. Further investigation revealed a Sig Sauer 9mm gun loaded with 29 rounds. Johnson did not have a FOID card, the prosecutor said. Officers also found a knife, purportedly used to slash the woman’s tires, and magazine loaded with 15 rounds. The prosecutor said that the vehicle Johnson was driving was registered to another person. The Alsip detective said Johnson was taken to MetroSouth because he was having “suicidal thoughts.”

Johnson has pending cases for resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance. Violations for bail bond were issued. The prosecutor asked for special conditions of bond, including surrendering all weapons to Alsip police and no contact with the victim.

Bail was set at $100,000. Johnson is due back in court May 16 in Bridgeview.
