Barber Student With Revoked FOID Charged With Armed Violence

Burbank police claim they found a loaded gun in a Crestwood man's car after they pulled him over for a traffic violation.

BURBANK, IL -- A 22-year-old barber student was arrested after police found a loaded gun and nine vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis in his car when he was pulled over for a traffic violation, prosecutors said. Eric Ornelas, of Crestwood, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on felony charges of armed violence and manufacture/delivery of cannabis. Prosecutors said that Ornelas had just been released from one year of supervision for a prior offense out of the Markham Courthouse.

Burbank police saw a car with an air freshener still in it wrapper dangling off the rearview mirror and obstructing the windshield heading southbound on Cicero Avenue around 3:47 p.m. July 2. The officer pulled the car over for a traffic stop and the driver, later identified as Ornelas, allegedly admitted that he did not have a valid driver’s license. The prosecutor said there was cannabis on the center console. Officers also claimed to have found nine vacuum sealed bags of marijuana and a loaded handgun inside a book bag on the back seat.

The prosecutor said that Ornelas’ FOID card was revoked due to a prior felony conviction for possession of pot with intent to deliver.
