Catholic Cemeteries Mark 2023 Memorial Day With Field Masses

OAK LAWN, IL — Memorial Day Field Masses will be celebrated at Catholic and parish cemeteries across Cook and Lake Counties on Monday, May 27, 2023.

This year, Chicago continues its participation in the national program, “Serving God and Country: A Memorial Day Salute to Our Heroes.” The annual Memorial Day remembrance was established by the Catholic Cemetery Conference, to honor men and women of the armed forces who died while serving their country, as well as active military and veterans.

Cardinal Blase Cupich, of the Archdiocese of Chicago, will celebrate Mass at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th St., Alsip.

During the Masses, veterans present will be asked to come forward for a special blessing followed by the playing of Taps.
