Crestwood Buys Ugly Police Building for a Dollar

Transfer of ownership of Illinois State Police building will allow village to turn Cicero Avenue into a showcase, says mayor.

CRESTWOOD, IL -- The Village of Crestwood picked up an old eyesore of a building for a dollar. Ownership of the former Illinois State Police facility was transferred by the Illinois State Legislature to the village.

The long vacant police facility has been a blight on the Cicero Avenue landscape for too many years to count. Mayor Lou Presta said the sale for will allow the village to remove the large radio tower and dilapidated building to beautify its piece of Cicero Avenue.

The sale did not cost Crestwood taxpayers one penny. The village purchased it for a buck.

“We’re going to knock it down. It’ll look better knocked down than it does now,” Presa said. “We’ll put up a government building, a fire or police station or a post office.”
