Crestwood Police Officer Hit by Car In Critical Condition

The Crestwood police officer was directing traffic at another accident scene when he was struck by Dodge Charger, police said.

ALSIP-CRESTWOOD — A Crestwood police officer is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Saturday evening while directing traffic at another accident site.

Around 8 p.m., police were at the scene of a minor motor vehicle accident in the southbound lanes near the intersection of the Midlothian Turnpike and Pulaski Road. Two officers were directing traffic from their police vehicles with their lights activated, according to police.

One of the officers went back to his police vehicle to retrieve some paperwork. The officer was leaning against the side of his police vehicle when a 2013 Dodge Charger plowed into the back of it at a high rate of speed.

The impact caused the officer to fly into the air. The Crestwood Fire Department transported the seriously injured officer to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Crestwood police described the officer’s condition as critical in a Facebook post.

Crestwood has requested the assistance of the Cook County Sheriff's Police, who is now handling the investigation.
