Crestwood's Highest Paid Village Employees 2016-2017

Mayor will get raise of $29,000, including additional $30,000 compensation for liquor control commissioner and budget director.

CRESTWOOD, IL -- Who are the Village of Crestwood’s top salary earners? Patch acquired salaries for full- and part-time village employees through a freedom of information act request.

For the period covering 2016-2017, the top salary earner in Crestwood is Village Services Director William Graffeo, who earned $96,190. Graffeo is responsible for day-to-day operations in the village. He also earns $1,200 as a building commissioner, and a monthly salary of $100 as the village health inspector.

Crestwood police chief Dave Weigand earns $85,900. Jon Bruce, the village fire chief, was paid $54,800. Both are assigned cars, each budgeted at $5,200.

Crestwood’s elected trustees are paid $6,000 annually to represent residents on the village board. Per village ordinance “adequate compensation of village officials is necessary to attract and retain qualified candidates.”

The office of mayor, technically a part-time position, has earned the same annual salary of $6,000 since 1985, established by ordinance. After the consolidated general election on April 4, 2017, the mayor’s salary will be set at $35,000.

The role of village budget director will be added to the office of mayor’s responsibilities. The budget director will oversee the village’s finances, budget, spending and tax levy for approval by the village board. The village budget director will be compensated at $15,000.

Crestwood village trustees have also also added the role of liquor control commissioner to the mayor’s responsibilities. The liquor control commissioner oversees the issuance of liquor licenses for restaurants, taverns and entertainment venues, as well as temporary licenses for community events, such as carnivals and festivals.

The liquor control commissioner for the Village of Crestwood, a position commonly assigned to municipal mayors, will be compensated an annual salary of $15,000.

Both roles, budget director and liquor control commission will go into effect after the general consolidated election on April 4, 2017, for a total annual compensation of $65,000, for whoever is elected mayor. Louis Presta, the current mayor of Crestwood, is running unopposed.

The village employs five full-time police officers, a parks patrol officer, and a code enforcement officer. The 22 part-time police officers are paid an hourly wage ranging from $15.75 to $17.50.

In addition to the full-time fire chief, the village also employs a full-time captain/deputy fire marshall. The remainder of the fire department force is comprised of 58 part-time firefighter/paramedics, who are paid between $15.25 to $17.75 per hour.
