Gun Found In Glovebox During Traffic Stop

Merrillville, IN man was passenger in car and admitted gun in glovebox belonged to him, prosecutors said.

ALSIP, IL -- An Indiana man was arrested after police found a loaded pistol in glove box during a traffic stop, prosecutors said. Arsenio Long, 26, of Merrillville, IN, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a felony charge aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and for not having a FOID.

Long was a passenger in a car that was pulled over for speeding by Alsip police on Aug. 26 Alsip police pulled over a driver on Aug. 26 for speeding. Officers learned that the driver was suspended for driving on a suspended license, which gave police probable cause to search the vehicle. Police found a loaded Ruger .22 caliber pistol in the glove box, which the passenger, later identified as Long, admitted that the gun was his, prosecutors said. The driver was charged with driving on a suspended license.

“You know how I feel about loaded guns,” Felice said.

Bail was set at $30,000. Long’s next court date is Sept.20 in Bridgeview.
