During the past ten months, we’ve hit the ground running to campaign for our entire Democratic slate. I set out to meet as many residents as I could, supported many events, and invited people into the organization along the way. This past election season was fought with hard work and determination. Worth Township Democratic Organization collected signatures, made phone calls, knocked on doors, registered voters, assigned election judges, hosted debate watch- parties, attended rallies, days of action, worked the polls, and ultimately celebrated victory!

Witnessing JB Pritzker, Juliana Stratton, Kwame Raoul, Jessie White, Susana Mendoza, and Mike Frerichs get sworn into office at the inauguration was inspiring and made all the hard work worth it. I believe this cabinet will move mountains to restore faith in Illinois, and to make it a role model for other states, albeit, not without a lot of tough choices and hard work.

Our Governor’s speech was hopeful and exciting. He spoke of our history and goals for the future. He spoke about our economy, families, healthcare, safety, education, infrastructure, environmental protection, worker wages, a fair tax system, accountability of leaders, and the need for kindness. Much of his speech resonated with me. His character speaks to why I believe he will do what it takes to get the job done:

High hope and clear vision are what have built this state. Despite all the turmoil in this world, Illinoisans continue to build, innovate, create and dream.” “Our history is a story of leaps forward and occasional stumbles back…that big change rides on what we can do together, not what one person attempts alone. So today, with all the challenges Illinois faces, Democrats and Republicans will work together, and we must begin with our most basic responsibilities.”

“We will propose, debate and pass a balanced budget this year.” It won’t be easy, but let’s confront this challenge with honesty. Our obligations as a state outmatch our resources. Our fiscal situation right now is challenging. And the solution requires a collective commitment to embracing hard choices. But be clear about this: I won’t balance the budget on the backs of the starving, the sick, and the suffering”

“Remember that our ability to grow weary of hate fuels our enormous capacity to be kind. The bright moments of our past…the North Star of our future…are all lit not by ambition, partisanship or greed…but by kindness. A willingness to be kind is a virtue often overlooked in life…a commitment to be kind in politics can change the world.”

“So, thank you Illinois, for your faith in me. I promise to live up to it every day. Together let’s go into this new century with enough faith to help each other out of our troubles, with enough foolishness to believe we can make a difference in the world, and with enough kindness to find the courage to change.”

“We will do this with the most diverse set of voices and perspectives that Illinois has ever seen.”

- JB Pritzker, Inauguration Speech, January 21st, 2019

Two days of celebration during the inauguration in Springfield provided a well-earned and much-needed break. Upon returning home, we got right to work, as the spring 2019 elections are right around the corner on April 2nd.

Worth Township Democratic Organization aims to be an important part in accomplishing the ambitious goals set fourth for us. I invite all Worth Township Democrats and independent voters to join our organization. You don’t have to be political or a politician to join— you just need to care about who is representing you in your community. If you’ve ever thought of running for election, come join us. If you want to know what’s in it for you, I can promise the rewards of meeting incredible people, involvement in something bigger than oneself, and the opportunity to make a difference through collective action.
