High Wind Gusts Blow Down Canopy At Alsip Gas Station

High wind gusts knocked down a canopy late Monday afternoon at the Citgo Station at 117th Street and Pulaski Road in Alsip.

ALSIP, IL -- High winds knocked down a canopy over the gas pumps at an Alsip gas station late Monday afternoon. Alsip police and fire were dispatched to the Citgo Station at 117th Street and Pulaski Road around 4:08 p.m. No injuries were reported. Two cars were under the canopy at the gas pumps at the time of the collapse but did not appear to be damaged.

The fallen canopy halted traffic with gaping motorists stopping in the middle of Pulaski to snap a quick photo with their cell phones. While the wind is believed to a contributing factor, the Alsip buildings department is investigating for structural failures, Alsip police said in a news release.

A wind advisory is in effect until noon Tuesday, Dec. 5. The National Weather Service is warning of wind gusts between 45 and 50 mph.
