Human Bones Found in Alsip During Excavation

Cook County Medical Examiner taking DNA samples from human bones found last week in Alsip.

ALSIP, IL -- Bones discovered during excavation work in Alsip last week were determined to be human remains by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The human bones were recovered April 7 in the 5100 block of West 127th Street in a mostly commercial area. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District was digging when the bones were found.

“At this time it is unknown how old the bones are,” said Becky Schlickerman from the Cook County Bureau of Administration. “An anthropologist will examine the remains and determine how long the bones have been there and the age, race and sex of the decedent.”
