The new academic day at Shepard

At the risk of overstatement, this first of three videos from Honors English I at Shepard High School should stir excitement in the heart of any educator.

The videos radiate quality instruction, educational evolution, and the kind of "interactive student engagement" that researchers plead to see.

Teacher Laura Friesema lead her first period students through an analysis of "Button, Button" this day. The sights, sounds, and feel of the learning environment represent a real departure from the past.

Perhaps most importantly, Curriculum Director for English Anthony Corsi noted a significant contrast to the pre-iPad version.

“I've seen the ‘analog’ version of some these activities, so it was great to see how technology enhanced the lessons and also seemed to increase student buy-in. Watch how the students snap to work instantly in the first video when it's time to work with their partner,” he said.
