Loaded Gun Found In Speeder's Car: Police

South Holland man threw blunt on ground when pulled over for speeding, Alsip Police said.

ALSIP, IL -- A loaded gun was found in a South Holland man’s car during a traffic stop as he was passing through Alsip, prosecutors said. Michael McClendon, 29, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. McClendon was also charged with possession of an invalid FOID card and three traffic violations.

Alsip police were on patrol around 10 p.m. July 25, when they clocked a car driving almost 70 miles per hour and in a 40-mph speed zone, the prosecutor said. When police pulled over the driver, later identified as McClendon, allegedly threw a blunt on the ground as he exited the car. Police said a search of McClendon’s car turned up a 9mm handgun with round in the chamber and 15 rounds in the magazine. McClendon was unable to provide a FOID card, which had been revoked following an arrest for domestic battery, the prosecutor said.

McClendon allegedly told police that he accidentally left the gun in his car when he went to a gun show. The judge set bail at $30,000. McClendon is due back in court Aug. 23 in Bridgeview.
