Driver Killed When Metra Train Strikes Vehicle in Blue Island

BLUE ISLAND, IL -- A Metra train struck an SUV Sunday afternoon in killing the driver, Metra officials said. According to information on Twitter, the accident happened on the Rock Island line around 5:25 p.m. near the Vermont station in Blue Island. Officials confirmed the victim was a 30-year-old man.

The Metra Rock Island train was headed to LaSalle station when it collided with an SUV between 119th Street and Wood Street. No further information was available.
